I've seen them nip at blood shrimp, and cleaners. I've never seen one kill one but I would not chance it either.
The only thing two reef keepers will agree on, is what the third reef keeper is doing wrong!

Yep, sounds like a plan Bet you don't have enough tanks anyway, right?

Re: Flame Hawkfish and Shrimp

Never had a problem, I've had a few flame hawks, and always with shrimp. I've had a flame hawk in my reef for the last 5years maybe. Flame angels are another story though.. Those bastards turn on you too.

I currently have a flame hawk with 3 cleaners and one blood shrimp, and have had them for a long time.

Mind you, they are probably his size, or bigger.

Hawkfish are carnivors that do make use of the pod population that's certain.

I wouldn't hesitate to get a nice specimen. Get a smaller/younger one.

Flame hawks rock, an essential entertainment factor of my reef (this one's shy though).. I want to get a needlenose hawk too.

No sweat, gotta love this anicdotal hobby.. it's all a crap-shoot in ways.

Besides, if you get one that does snack on a shrimp, it's only 20$ for the shrimp. ;D We spend over 20$ for a lobster dinner, why can't the hawkfish enjoy himself??

All kidding aside, they are great fish, never had any problems with the ones I have. Was sad to loose the one before this one because of the moving, so we got another. Stig also has one in his reef..

I've had mine for about 3 months now and he hasn't bothered either of my 2 blood shrimps or cleaner. Haven't seen him nibble at the hermits or the snails. He does go alittle crazy though and sometimes flicks the snails off the rock with his tail but no damage done. It is cool to watch him perch on the acroporas.
