    candy cane feeding

Just a quick question. Are each head on a candycane separate or are their "internals" connected? So when I feed them, does the entire coral get fed by feeding one of the heads or do I need to give food to all of them?
    thanks.

They are more of a filter feeder!

They are all individual, What i do with mine is i feed my tank Brine shrimp and Cyclose eez. and i just spray it into there heads when feeding the tanks.

I used to target feed mine when I had them too. They'll eat anything meaty. I'm pretty sure each head does have to feed with this one.

will new heads form on a candycane if so, does it start forming directly from the skelleton or would one of the heads split ?

Growth is mainly from splitting of the polyps.

I've never target fed mine...when I feed in the evening, they extend their tentacles and grab food out of the water column. They've always grown well with this method...but now I'm thinking I'll target feed one colony and let the other colony "pick and grab" and see if there's any growth difference.

Trust me target feed your candy cane!

I did the same as you Pubber, just feed the whole tank never just the candy cane. And yes he did grow. He went from 3 heads to about 6-7 heads in about 11/2 years.

Last month I decided to start target feeding my candy cane. I feed him mysis every second night(I made sure that every head got a peice or two of mysis.) and holy crap!!!! He has grown so much! Every head has doubled in size, and all the heads have split to make new heads, and even some of the new heads are starting to split! There is even new skelletal growth (which I have only seen once in the past year and a half.)

feed him be generous he will love you for it! By the way if I keep feeding him this much he will quickly out grow his little 10 gallon nano, and he will have to be fragged (not a bad thing though.) Good luck with your candy cane.

I usually turn my cannister filter and skimmer off to feed my tank.

Feeding the tank is usually a mixture of krill, brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, san-fran mix, flake and DT phytoplankton. Every two days.

Hope this isn't too much food..it's hard to gauge.

I typically just throw it in the tank, only leaving the power heads running. This is done for about 2 hours.

Corals (candy-cane) seem to be doing fine. I do target feed the hammer large pieces of shrimp.

Do you guys recommend feeding candycane at night since that is when they tentacles are extended?
