I don't have hermit crabs. I prefer snails as they are more specialized feeders and don't tend to kille each other as crabs often do.

All crabs are opportunistic feeders. They are also omnivores. I'm with flame, I perfer the snails.

I used to have hermit crabs.
However, I have since pulled all of them out. They are opportunistic feeders that will kill your snails in order to take over their shells. Even if you have extra shells lying around. I guess they like the fact of getting a new home and a meal at the same time.

No more hermits for me either...got tired of finding empty snail shells - even when there were available shells around (I guess the bathrooms weren't large enough in the available shells). A good mix of detrivore and herbivore snails seem to do the trick.
    Keep passing the open windows!

The first tank I have got some crabs and they fight each other until 50% lost. So in my second tank, I've no crab.
