want to learn how to frag (101)

I have read posts on fraging mushrooms. I have a couple of single speicies of mushrooms that i would like to frag.
I have read a variety of ways, however Im not clear on where to "slice" the mushroom.

    1. do i cut the top off at the steam?
    2. do i cut the top of the mushroom like a pie?

I like the idea of puttin rubble in a glass and have them stick. that seems like a good way to stop them from blowing around, and sticking somewhere you dont what them.

Also i have a nice size colt coral that i would like to frag off a peice for my bro-in-law. I have no idea how to frag it. its a nice peice so i dont want to hurt it either.

    Anyone have suggestions for me?
    Thanks

I use the pie method for my riccs, brown and hairy shoorms. I also use the 'off with their heads!' method for my smooth green, red and purple shooms. I take the loose pieces and put them in an icecream container filled with medium sized cc. Once they are sticking to the cc I take a pea sized peice of the two part epoxy and mount them where ever I please!

    It works great for me!

All the ones on the rock in the midde (purple and green riccs) were done using the method I described.

The middle rock was a bare peice of scrap LR I had in the sump. I let the shrooms sit in the sump for 1 ~ 2 weeks before I mounted them. That peice has been sitting for just over 6 weeks.

I have done them, easy as well. Snip off a good sized branch and use elastics to hold it in place to the rock. I have also just shoved the cut peice into the spot I wanted it to go. I'll post a few pics later tonight.

i've actually stuck mine into an empty snail shell (great to stick frags in) and it attaches easily and can be moved anywhere.

wow xerces... very nice job on the shrooms!! :thumb:

I also just cut the heads off the rock and let them take to another rock... within a week or 2 you can cut it off again. within a month you have another small mushroom to cut(from the original spot)...

atlantic: as for the colt... get yourself a good pair of scissors and cut off a branch in one quick cut... use an elastics to gently hold it on another piece of rock and give it a couple weeks... you can also use fishin line and thread the piece onto the rock. HTH
