    Siphoning a sump.... How?

I must be having a blonde moment or something....

I can't figure out how I'm going to go about siphoning detritus out of my sump.

The sump is located on the floor. Normally to start a siphon, one has to have water go down lower than the water level you siphon from. But how would one accomplish this if the sump is already on the floor?

I just use a turkey baster to suck the crud off the bottom of my sump, works well enough,

I have a python that I use. I took off that big part on the end and just use the narrow tube. Works great:

If you don't have sand, use a sump pump and just suck it out. If you have sand, you can still siphon water as long as the level that the water is draining to is lower that the water level of the sump. It may not give you much room to play with, but you should still be able to siphon a little.

Nope no sand... just detritus buildup in the sump.

My sump is too big to go over the whole area with a turkey baster. I'd be there all day.

I have a feeling that a Python may be my best choice. Thanks Susan.

I use a small old canister filter, fill it with filter wool, prime it and plug it in..and siphon away,I usually just use it for maintenance or polishing when needed.

If you do not have a sm canister lying around use a maxijet or any other PH attach some tubing to the suction end (intake).and a longer amount to the output that goes into a lg bucket.

    Robin,

I like the idea of the canister filter. I'll try it.

    Thanks.
