    adding substrate

i have about 2" of CC on the bottom of my tank. i was thinking about adding some fine sugar sand to the tank. i was thinking about just adding the fine sand over top of the crushed coral. would this pose any problems? i dont really want to take out all the crused coral and lose the live bacteria and pods that i have built up. any ideas?
