    New ARC MH bulbs

I saw toolouds post about the 250 watt 14K's
Just wondering if anyone has looked at the 400 watt versions yet. I curently mix 4 10K bulbs with a 20K Radium and like the colour, But I am going with longer tank, and will only be using 4 bulbs.
I find the Radium on my HQI ballast too blue to be used alone.
Just wondering if the 14K's would be a nice choice to use without having actinic supplementation?
    Thanks

last week, Vince posted some nice articles on bulbs.
but I can't find the thread at the moment.. i'm sure he'll chime in soon. but what was really interesting in the information given on those tests was that there was no significant difference in light output from a 250 to the 400w bulbs. so pretty much a waste of power... at least thats what I understood.

also how can we know what type of bulb it is ? like radium, mercury vapor or other.. ?? ..........oh Vince :

    Liv,
Are you referring to Sanjay's tests for the no significant differnce between the 2?
If so, then that was a very biased test that did not really compare the 2 wattages correctly. The 250's were DE's and tested in a ReefOptix reflector which is basically the Cadillac of reflectors for 250w DE's and the 400w were SE's and were tested without any reflectors!! Now.., you tell me which would perform better? The conclusion of this test, even though it was not done equally was that a 250w DE (in a GOOD reflector) performed equally as or near to the 400w SE ( WITHOUT a reflector). If it is another test, then I'll wait to see it myself and hopefully Vince WILL chime in here and link it once again.

Greg, I think that it wasn't the lack of reflector on the 400 watt se bulbs being compared to the 250 de, it was that the 250 w de didn't have their uv shields in place under the bulbs- that is why the 250s were so close to the 400- because the shield is built into the single ended bulbs.

By the sounds of it, you might find the 14K too close to your Radium. Like the SA bulbs, it seems the "14" is likely a little closer to "18-19" for colour.
