    Should I get an urchin?

I need your opinions on Urchins, to help me decide if I should get one for my tank.

I have a small 65 gallon tank, with LPS, SPS and a few zoo’s.

What kind should I get? What size does it get?

What does it look like? Does it attack your SPS or Zoo’s?

What kind of algae have you seen it eating in your tank?

    Should I get one?

I have had them in the past and they are interesting to have for a short time but then you realize that they knock things over rather often and mess up your decor. In a reef tank with corals .. I would avoid them.

I have 3, 2 of them are the same species and one is a different kind. All 3 of them grew from larve on the rock. I was planning on trading 1 or 2 in to Big Als for some credit, but if you would like one, we could arrange a trade for a frag, if you have any =)

I have the species information at home, but let me look it up real quick. They are both from the carribean and both quite cool to look at =).

Ok the first one is a Echinometra viridis.

The second is Lytechinus variegatus, and if you look in this pic (from wet web media) my varient is the pink one on the left.

I've always kept a Blue Tuxedo Urchin (Mespilia globulus) in my 55. They stay farily small, so there isn't much problem with knocking stuff over. Good cleaners, interesting to watch.

Please start a thread stating the hitch-hikers you got on that aquacultured rock of yours so we don't take away from this thread's subject. I'm dying to hear...
