That look's like a small spong and I have quit a few in my tank. I did'nt know what to think but I heard that its a sign showing your system is doing fine. And some of my crabe are nipping on some.

    Won't a spounge over-grow the zoos?
There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.

sponges tend to grow pretty slow in tanks. Don't worry about it growing over the zoos. In the end, I bet the zoos will overgrow it
