    Tangs vs green brain

Well I don't know what to do anymore!!

My green brain has been doing very nice! it's got 4 mouths, all were opening and accepting morcels of food but lately it's been closing up and I now know why. The 2 yellow tangs have decided to use it as an all you can eat buffet!!!!

I have made a cage for the brain out of egg crate for the moment. It seems to work, it is opening up again. The tangs are really looking for a way in... grrrrrr.

Now I don't really want to leave a big ugly egg crate box in the tank and I don't want the tangs to eat it either. I KNOW I will prolly have to relocate the brain to a new home :bawling: but I was hoping someone here would have an idea for a solution to keep everyone in the tank?!

Not too hopefull but will see.... thanks for any imput

Are the tangs stealing food from the brain or actually picking at it?
There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.

You may want to try feeding your tangs more often. If they have other, more viable sources of food, they may leave your brain coral alone.

Tangs are notorious for nipping at large polyp corals, though. If it persists, you may have to make a decision to remove the coral or the fish.

MalHavoc you just made me think of something... gonna try to add more "green " to the diet for a while.... they prefer to eat meat lately so had been letting go on the green stuff.... maybe its their way to tell me we need some vegies...lol

    Gonna try that and see

    Any other suggestions out there?

Get a nori/seaweed clip and just put a piece of a sheet of Nori (you can get it at most grocery stores) in it. Give the tangs something to graze on all day and they will probably leave your coral alone.

Yellow tangs aren't really supposed to be meat eaters anyway. Maybe for variety now and then, but algae should be the staple of their diet.

    Hey Carol,

If it keeps up, and you do indeed need to find a new home for the brain, you could always bring it to me since I'm around the corner...

I'll even give you visitation rights...

That little crab is most probably a monster that will wreak havoc in your tank and mine... He'd probably end up in my sump... or yours...
