Of the 2 which would you prefer and why? my tank hight will be 25 inches high and 48 long and am planning on having 2x250 14k halides over it ust not sure if I should go with se's or de's.

DEs are supposedly better/stronger according to some opinions.

    Go with SE's..

I find fom personal Experience that DE Bulbs are more directed towards the area below it, You get much better Spread from the SE's.. If you want to go with DE's on the 48 inch tank i would suggest 3.

perhaps then thats what it is, the SE spread further but as a result would not be as strong. Maybe the DE's are stronger b/c it stays focused on a smaller area.

Thanks I hear that the DE's were stronger but did not know about the directness of them over the tank.. In that case I think that I will go with the SE's.. Thanks guys...

it depends how high up the lights will be. if its high above the tank (say 12") the DEs will spread enough for you possibly.

The DEs are stronger when used with an efficient reflector and they produce a more concentrated light source. The SEs will do a better job of covering a 4 foot tank because as stated above they will spread the light out more. If you get some decent reflectors for the SEs they will do a good job for intensity, too

Thanks.. I'm going to go with SE's for now 1 because of price 2 because of overall coverage...

Anyone know if I put 1 250 watt 14k SE over my 36" tank 18 high will suffice.. Eventually I'm upgrading to a custom 70 gal corner bow front tank and that is what I will have teh 2 250's over buut for now I only have pc's and have noticed my carpet anemone streaching a bit.

It'll produce a bright spot, but it won't be soo bad.
