Scrapping my dual 175W Retro for 250W

I'm thinking about scrapping my dual 175W MH retro kit and going to a single 10k 250 W kit, and dual 65W actinics. Its kind of a waste because i just bought the dual 175 kit and the bulbs are only 2 months old, but my tank is 21" deep and i think (after reading countless artices on PAR and lux ) that the single 250W would increase the growth rates of my acro's

What do you all think ?

What are the dimensions on your tank length and width?
One metal halide bulb will fully cover an area of 2' by 2'.

As for depth, the 250 watter would definatley penitrate the water better. It would also give you more PAR wich should increse the growth rate of your SPS.

The tank is a cube (22.5x22.5x22.5 if you leave the sandbed in ) therefor the coverage of the bulb isn't an issue, i'm just trying to see what other people have experienced doing this, i know that in theory it should increase my growth rates, but i'd like to hear some testimonial

I have a grow out secton in my sump that is 2' x 2' x 2', It has a single 250 watt 10K XM halide over it. Unfortunatley the tank is not cycled yet so I don't have any corals in there to comment on growth rates. Sorry

I was thinking about adding a grow out tank onto my setup, because i have about a dozen sps frags in my tank that broke off my corals at one time or the other by accident, i just stuck them all in the sandbed and they are all getting quite big now. I think what i may end up doing is making a new sump this summer thats partioned and have frags in one section

Before you upgrade have a look at the following link.

There is a hugh differeance between bulbs and with respect to par rating.

    http://www.cnidarianreef.com/

click on 250 W metal halide test.

Andrewns sent me this link a while back.

I know you curently have 175 MH just have a look at the link

    WOW
THere is a huge difference for those PFO ballasts! Allmost 50% more PAR then some other ballasts..... hmmm
I am thinking about the 250 Watt Metal Halide Advance Electromagnetic Ballasts from cooltouch, but i don't see it on that list
