    toadstool help

I've had a toadstool for about a year now, it started off the shape of a mushroom (skinny base, large on top like an umbrella) and it grew for about 6 months and then stopped growing. I noticed today that the base/trunk is now almost as wide as the top and is more shaped like a wide ice cream cone.

Do some corals (ie toadstool) only get a certain size and then need to be fragged ? the base is so wide not I'm not sure exactly how i'm going to frag it anymore !

Earlier this year, I fragged a huge sarcophyton (9"-10" umbrella). I fragged it like a mushroom, cuuting the "cap" from the trunk. You then cut the cap like a pizza, trying to get a piece of the centre with each of about 8 slices.

Attach the "centre" end of each slice to a piece of rock rubble (I sewed mine - using ordinary thread). In about a week or two, the slice should start to attach its new base.

I kept one slice for myself and sold the rest to my LFS. Or you could share them with other hobbyists... your choice.

Do you still have polyps extending from the top?

If so, then cut off the stalk, except for 3/4" of "cap".

That would help. I fragged mine because the stem/stalk could no longer support the head/cap, even in mild flow.
