    ID Needed.

I picked up some pumping polyps on a small peice of rock, but I notice there were some very long (2-3inches) white strands of string (wormy things) on the rock that come in and out of the rock. I've noticed about 5 or 6 of them...

    Thanks!

Maybe a spagettie worm? But it's really hard to say without a pic. Sorry my spelling may be off?

It is white/clear - and very thin.... long and move around.. doesn't really have any more characteristics than that... I have my lights off for a couple days for algee control... so maybe in a couple days I can take a pic, I am just worried if this is harmfull or not?

Does it have more than one tenticle/arm? if so I think it would be a spagettie worm, they have about 4-6 tenticles that they out streach to gather food. They are harmless and only eat detris.

The arms come out fo the rocks holes, and there are a 5-6 tentacles.. it could come from the same point inside the rock, but no real way to tell from what I know...

It really sounds like a spagettie worm to me. Try doing a seach on them on reef central and see what you come up with. My spelling may be off.

I'm with cableguy, it does sound like a spaghetti worm!

    Ottawa,
Does it look like a web or actual arms? If it's a web, it's a Vermitillid snail. These little guys build a curly tube that they always stay and livein. They have a trap door at the end where the web comes out of and you will actually be able to see something move around in that doorway. The web is a mucous web sent out to trap floating particles, then they reel it back in to eat along with whatever nutrients they managed to catch on the web.

It isn't a web, they are single arms that come out of the rock if it is a speghetti worm, I have 2 in the same rock, becuase the come out of 2 different areas (Multple arms come out in those areas)

Couldn't see them yesterday when I was taking pics.. try and catch them again today maybe..
