    Banggai Babies

I have been watching my male banggai brooding the fry in his mouth for two weeks now, and I discovered a hatchling in the sump this morning when I was about to top up.

I quickly pulled the one fry out and rescued four more from the main tank. I put all five in the quarantine tank. The male has several more fry in his mouth. I've read that the average "litter" is about 20 fry.

Anyhow, I've started a batch of baby brine shrimp in a half-gallon jug. It'll take about 48 hrs for them to hatch.

Any ideas on what else I could feed to them?

Here's a picture of the 5 fry clustered around the thermometer in the Q tank. One is to the top left (of the thermometer) and the rest to the right.

cool, congratulations. I have been feeding my tank with "Invertabrate gourmet gumbo" from coralife, it says on the back that its suitable for feeding small fish.

I bet they would eat cyclop-eeze. I have feed some baby fresh water fish cyclop-eeze before and they seemed to like it.
That would be awesome if you raised those fry to adult hood! Nice work.

Why is it taking you so long to hatch BBS? It shouldn't take more than 12-13 hours. Are you heating the water? Get it up to 80degrees and you'll have BBS in 12 hours give or take. Most people just use an incandecent light to heat the hatching jar, and the light has some effect as well.

I found this article where the author talks about his experience breeding banggai cardinals.

At the bottom of the article he talks about what he feeds the fry. Very interesting stuff ... best of luck

Why is it called "cargo" when it goes by ship, and "shipment" when it goes by car?
