I was under the impression that they were only $160 with pump and under $20 dollars the ship. If they are that much then yes i would agree

    Thanks,

    A quick search at:
    http://www.reefsolution.com/catalog/...72a8bc49ae602d
Shows the CU200 at $275 and the CU300 at $325.

For this price, you get a pump.
    CU300 - "Sen 700 GPH pump included"
    CU200 - "Sen 600 ..."

The boys at Marinscape (here in Ottawa) make and sell "in sump" skimmers. They are "in sump" only because of a) the design and b) so they don't have to be leak proof.

The point here is that they sell theirs for $250 with a pump, but, the pump is worth $150.

Can you please put me on the right path to read up on these skimmers and to see a picture of them even possibly in action as well.

    Thanks

There is a whole spectrum of answers to questions like
What skimmer do I need? Do I need a skimmer?

You can live without one. If you do everything else right.

Otherwise the "right" skimmer is going to depend on a number of factors.
    1) tank size
    2) bio load
    3) feeding habits
    4) tank maturity
    5) tank / sump layout
(and good luck finding the formula for that set of criteria)

You can check out this link:
    http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm
Or just do a web search on skimmer.

Just remember you will see answers from "No, you don't need one." to "Absolutely, the Turboflotor 10,000 as a minimum."

It is a bit like asking, "Which car should I drive?"
