    plate coral dead??

Just curius how you cn tell if a plate coral is dead... My wife's has not opened his tenticles up in about 5-7 days and is now letting off what looks like spider webs from its body and is a bit on the slimy side... Dead or just expelling (pooping) ??

My plate coral will extend "webs" when it is trying to feed. Have you been feeding your plate coral? It maybe hungary, that could be why it is acting fuuny. Also my plate coral will tend not to extend as much when I don't feed him as often.

If your plate coral is dead he will have no tissue left on his skeleton.

Even if the piece looks like it's all skeleton, don't throw it out for a while.
A year ago last summer, I had an A/C meltdown while on holidays and cooked my tanks somewhat to 96 F and the green plate was one of the many casualties I had.
For no real reason I left it in the tank, (a 20g with 2 twenty watt lamps over it) and within about 2 months, it regrew.
Now, you would never know that anything had happened to it. Wish all the other corals I lost would have regrown this way.
When I first got this coral, it never did very well, bleached and no polyp extention, until I placed it in that 20 g low light tank.
Don't know why, but I'm glad it works anyway.
