Unhappy I first fish lost in my 65 gallon

    My lawnmower blenny is dead...

I saw my cleaner shrimp somewhere where he never goes...

So I check it out... And I see him "eating" the blenny...

He seemed fine... Eating some green algy... But since I put my Yellow Tang in the tank it seems like the yellow tang decided that all the algy belonged to him... Could this be what caused his death? Starvation?

If the Benny was afraid to come out of hiding to feed because of the faster moving more aggressive tang may have starved. How long ago was the tang added and how big is the tank? Was the tang QT ed? I ask because tangs commonly carry ICH and bottom dwellers are often the first to be catch it if it is present in the tank.

I did QT him but not long enough... I know, I know... I should QT my new fish... I'm going to convert my 29 gallon tank to a permanant QT tank after ridding some stories.

The tang was added about 1 month ago.... I noticed that the Blenny came out a bit less then usual but I did not think that there would be a problem... My tank has enough algy for sure... But I have noticed that the Tang has eaten almost all of it lately...

Could the blenny been afraid to go and pick the algy/food because of the tang? I think that is what happend He did look healthy though... And so do all of my other fish...

Should I do a water change now? I took him out of course...

    Thanks,

    Marc

It is possible if he was in the tank alone before the tang was added or if the tang was giving him a hard time.

I never saw the tang bother the blenny... The blenny was there before the tang thought...

If the Benny was not afraid to come out to feed and the tang was not giving him a hard time perhaps something else went wrong. When a fish dies in your tank for no obvious reason and you have added new fish recently that's a RED flag. Play it safe and keep a close eye on the tang until you are sure he is in fact OK. Keep an eye out for ICH, fin tail disorders or fading color.

no it is not a panic situation just keep a close eye on your tang. Other then that just keep doing what you been doing. Maybe run some water tests to make sure your parameters are OK. Never hurts to run some tests when something unexpanded occurs.
