    Cured / Uncured Rock

I am restarting a reef tank after being away from the hobby for several years.

If is better to start the tank with uncured rock to get a nice die off and amonia cycle going, or to use cured rock.

I know that the cured rock will allow me to add livestock earlier, but I'm a patient guy.

It really depends on the rock. It isn't at all unusual to buy cured rock and still have to go through the same cycle as uncured. Uncured will give you more "life" if it's good but it may also come with critters you don't want, then again so can good fresh cured rock. If uncured rock isn't fresh it can stink really bad for a long time.
