RO DI who needs em, good old city water

Well after a short 3 months of use i could tell my ro pre filters were clogged again, so i go to change them and i find a disgusting, smelling and filthy set of pre filters... to think i drink this water everyday... i can only imagine the amount of bacteria and sediment i drink in a life time if this is what i get from 3 months of use

This seems to be the worst time of year for city water. I just changed my prefilters after only a few months too. Disgusting.

I added a bypass valve before the DI cartridge so that I can make my own drinking water. It's great, I can't stand the taste of tap water anymore.

Mine is supposed to be 100 gpd but right now I figure I'm getting about 30 gallons in 24 hours although my gage reads 50. Could be I need a new membrane though, it's usually faster than that.

mine was never speedy even when i first got it, i wish i could do something to speed it up because i maintain saltwater tanks for people around the city and need alot of water, they are talking about adding meters to the residential houses in saint john for water usage that would be bad news because i'm wasting about 15 times as much water as i'm using with that RO

My understanding on these RO/DI units is that 100gpd is the absolute best that you could get, but in reality it will be lower. Kinda like gas mileage.

Also, the temperate of the input water affects the output. 78F is the ideal temperature to use (if I remember correctly) and no way is tap water that warm. There are units that can be purchased (discussed elsewhere on this forum) that connects to the hold/cold pipes and ensures the input water is at 78F.

Also, I would assume that the worse the input water is, the slower it will be. For example, my input water measures 50 TDS which is a lot lower than other places in Ottawa. But then again, my entire house is connected to a filter system. I'm currently getting about 2-3 gallons per hour. But the unit is still new.
