    Yup..

I've been following that thread, the one on RC, and the one on Canreef.

I'm just about sure my crash in July was related to this. By the way, my alk also tested high with that salt.

we can never win in this hobby.
well its a good thing i didnt switch to IO yet, after one of the previous threads i was planning to.
Tropic Marin now claims to have a "Pro Reef" salt mix (in addition to the regular mix). I saw an ad for it recently. any ideas on that?
this salt mix problem i am assuming is purely a IO problem, correct? or can it also manifest itself in other brands?

The current salt mix problem is purely a IO problem. Other salts have not been affected, including Kent salt which is manufactured at the same plant.

However, this COULD happen with any brand.

    BIO MARINE MIX

Did no one here about the big probs with CRYSTAL SEA[bio marine mix? from MARINE ENTERPRIZES] There were tons of people having trouble after switching salts. Myself included! check out some of the hundred threads and posts on RC. I lost a few things and some bleaching. There can be probs with anybrand in my oppion and I'm really suprized that IO is having some trouble as there such a big company[sometimes that in its own can create problems].

I know this is old news. But I guess no brand of salt is fool proof. Sould we not be testing all newly made up salt water before adding to the tank. Or would it be enough to just test when you open a new bucket. What else should we be looking for in a bad batch of salt besides high Alk and low Ca.

you should also be looking at the pH of the mix, and possibly any ammonia or nitrite that might be lying around. phosphates if you're worried about that as well.

I've switched to the Oceanic salt for the new tank. I love it so far. Mixes very quickly, and has higher calcium than IO. If you drip kalkwasser, be careful with it.
