    Monitors

What do you guys think of monitors (such as the PinPoint)?
are they worth it? are they reliable? or are they just a waste of $$$?

I find that it's a necessity when using a kalk reactor or calcium reactor to have a pH monitor.
    Not many people monitor ORP.
As for salinity. I don't trust hydrometers. SO, if I can't get a refractometer at a decent price, I will get a Pinpoint Salinity monitor, and eventually even get an Aquacontroller which can monitor pH, orp, and temp, among other neat bells and whistles.

pH Monitors are a definate :thumb: from me.

The PinPoint monitors are a great addition and now I wouldn't go without. :thumb:

No more going back to test kits and hydrometers for me. :guns:

I have a PinPoint Ph meter and a PinPoint Salinity meter, as well as an un-mentionned new PinPoint meter that I am Beta-testing for PinPoint on my system at home.

Don't ask, I agreed to a non-disclosure of the function and posting of any pics ... :

Monitors are a good move for the aquarist wishing to simplify the hobby and spend more time on other tasks other than constantly testing.

I LOVE my PinPoint pH monitor. I also have their ORP monitor but it's not what I'd call essential. It can give you an indication that something is going wrong though. I agree with the others, refractometers are the way to go for salinity.

I sure hope the new beta-test monitor has something to do with calcium!

i know all the experts may find this to be a silly question, but what exactly is a controller? does it some how dose a solution in response to what it monitors?
ok, so based on what people are saying here, i think i'm going to go with the pH monitor (not too expensive) and perhaps even the salinity monitor. What exactly is the ORP?
thanks from bringing me up to Par.

    It's a good investment.

    Oxidation-Reduction Potential.

Here's a good explanation... It's heavy reading though...
