    toadstool leather

I got a huge toadstool leather off Johnnyrock (thanks again Johnny) about 2 weeks ago, and it's looking great!!!! My only concern is that it's so huge that in my 77 gallon it's base is at the back of the tank and it's head is about an inch away from the front of the glass. Alone, it looks great, but in my tank it almost looks out of place. What I'd like to do is cut the stock, which is about the size of an alphegette can (around) and push the leather back some because right now when it's out in full bloom I can even clean my front glass. Is this doable, to cut the stock?

I've tried it on an angle in the corner of the tank but I really don't like the look of it on an angle.

Pat (PWALL) and a number of Chris's (including CRES) have had success slicing off the cap and then quartering the cap. The individual cap pieces grew new toadstools and the stock grew a new head.

I would assume that cutting the stalk would have a similar effect.

Re size surprises: I got some monti cap frags from Johnny yesterday. They looked tiny in his tank and significantly larger in my tank.

    Good luck.

yes... if the knife or (i prefer) scissors are sharp enough, you can cut a leather almost any way, and it wall grow. If you wish to have tons of little leathers, you can use a sharp blade to cut the head to the diameter you want, by shaving off the sides, and then chop what you've cut off into thumbnail sized pieces. Those pieces shoud grow into new leathers... just put em on a tooth pick and stick it on a rock.

Make sure the blade is SHARP, SHARP, SHARP!!!

And if the head is as big as a stearing wheel, how long will the stock take to grow a new head?

If I recall, Johnny got that leather from someone who had cut the head off previously. One year later there were two similar sized Leathers where there was one.
