    Trank Bred VS Tank Raised

I had a discussion over the weekend with some fellow reefers and the subject of tank bred and tank raised came up. I was always under the impression that they were two different things.

Tank Bred: Fish were hatched from eggs laid from parents in the aquarium

Tank Raised: Fish were collected as juviniles in the wild and raised in the aquarium.

Do I understand these terms correctly or are they synonymes(spelling)?

    ya.. i think your right.
i'd think the tank bred would be hardier because they were not wild caught.
they didn't see the big blue.. *( they didn't downgrade from 6**Billion gallons to 100g. ) probebly also a change in their diet..etc.
also with tank bred, We give mother nature a little break.

I think it depends on the type of fish and how it is caught. Because alot of wild caught fish addapte very well to aquarium life, my yellow tang in my 120 comes to mind. I think tank bread and tank reared are more bullet proof though. I am getting my second pair of tank bread clowns hopefully today and I can't wait.

AFAIK Steph hit it dead on.

Tank bred -> born in an aquarium.
Tank raised -> caught as a baby & raised behind glass.

There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.
