Where to pick up some Y- and U-tubes?

    Hello,

I live in the Ottawa area and was wondering where I locally can pick up a true 1" Y-tube splitter so that I can separate my return into 2 returns. As well, I want to get some hollow acrylic tubes so that I can bend them into U-tubes. I know I can get them from Canus plastics, but are there any pre-made? If there aren't any premade ones, cah I bend my own by filling it up with sand and then use a heat gun to make the bends without kinking it too much?

Another question while I am at it: would 2 3/4' U-tubes work for about 700 GPH? I want to use at least one U-tube for the 'in case' factor.

    Thanks in advance, Newty

    Well, I want a Y-splitter like this:

    | |
    | |
    / /\ \
    / / \ \

All entry and exit points are 1".

I know that PVC plus has something like this:

    | |
    | |
    | \ \
    | |\ \
    | | \ \

All entry and exit points are either 1.5 or 2"

The Y-spitter is cleaner in terms of appearance (and I think that water flow may be more evenly distributed). Now that I think of it, I recall locline having a splitter of the same sort, but the largest it gets is 3/4".

I've seen u-tubes at Big Als in Katata as replacement parts for syphon type overflows.

There's also PVC Plus and Canus Plastics you might try. There's another store for plumbing oddities in the area, but the name escapes me....

    Cheers!

    Hello,

Thanks for the replies. My wife bought me a 2" WYE fitting, SCH80 (I am happy that she thought of me, though...). I will get some reducers that will work with this. One problem solved.

Cres, is the U-tube you are speaking of similar to this:

Anyone have any experience with this? I was under the impression that an U-tube should have a 180 degree angle to it for better performance. Or is it maintaining the siphon a more critical point?

    Thanks again, Newty

    Not exactly, no.

The ones I saw were smooth curved, clear and about 1" diameter and maybe 10" high. They looked like replacement parts for a syphon type overflow.

Looks much like the u-tube in this Lifereef photo.

    Thanks again,

I think I found it at last.

The problem was that I was looking at the pictures. Once I realized that I could read the descriptions, then that is when I found it! Nice picture of the product, though...
