I only added rock and now look...

I bought that two year old base rock like I said and since inserting some into the tank, i've had an algae issue. Green film that appears yellow on the glass. All rock is covered. I clean the glass and the algae returns 1 hour later.
Is this from a mass die off of some sort? Nitrite, Nitrate spike?

The algae blennie seams to like it. there's mouth marks all over the back glass.
What the hell...How did you get in here? And get out of my aquarium.

Did you let the rock cure in another tank before throwing it into your setup? Usually when you add anything to your setup it'll send it into a mini cycle... depending on how much die-off was on your rock, how long you cured it ect ect.

How is your water quality.. have you tested your amonia, nitrate levels? Do you have a refugium and/or skimmer running?  Algea will only thrive if you have excess nutrients in your water and the skimmer and ref will help you remove these.  This excess can be from over feeding....the water quality in your area or from the extra life you throw into your tank.

About your blennie, I'm sure he's extra happy... I laughed the first time I seen the fish lips all over the glass.

    Thanks IJO.

The mini cycle is more than likely the answer.
I have an unlit 10 G refugium with no macro algae. Just pods and worms and stuff.
That 'fuge overflows into the sump.
The PM 626 skimmer runs out of the sump
Output of the custom tank overflow splashes into the 'fuge.

I'll just keep the skimmer on and I'm sure it'll clear up soon.

Get rid of the nutirents.  That's the first step.  The blennie is good along with turbos, hermits etc.  No tank should be without these.  It's probably a cycle.  The new rock may have affected your pH, which will start a chain of events with algae.  I'm sure it will go away.  test  for phospates etc.  Are you using R/O or distilled water???  That made a huge difference on my tank.  Good Luck!

Also keep in mind that base rock has no critters to help break down the good stuff that algae loves...give it time.
