    Help !

    Hey all,

I got a new frogspawn friday eveniing and today it hasn't openned much and seems like it's melting !

    Parameters are:
    PH - 8
    alk - 6.4
    Calcium ~380
    Salinity 1.027

I'm thinking it may be low calcium ?!? not sure what else it could be.... suggestions anybody ? I do have kalkwasser I can have but no drip, does anyone know if there is a safe way to ad kalkwasser without using a drip ?

    thanks,
    Nick.

Your calcium isn't as bad as I've seen...

However, I'm looking at your salinity, and it's up there... 1.027 is getting kinda high. And hopefully, your hydrometer isn't too far from the real thing. Hydrometers have a tendency to be off.

What about temp, and water parameters such as ammo, trites, and trates?

    Lighting?

And when you say melting, Does it look like it has a brown jelly formation on it?

    thanks,
    Nick.
Nick, Without know anything else, I agree with TangMan. Gradually start lowering your salinity. 1.023-025 would be just fine.

    Good Luck

This is probably bleaching corallines if it is simply a color change (caused by stress of import or low calcium in your tank... do test for calcium and add if necessary)... OR, decay from rotting plants/algae. Do you have an algae that has suddenly dies in those spots???

If you have a sudden change in your calcium levels, either up or down, but mainly down, then parts of the rock will bleach. Not a big deal, just raise your calsium slowly to a higher level. 380 should be fine but was it lower before....say down under 320 for a day or so????

Other than that you have me stumped on this one. Good Luck.

The only thing two reef keepers will agree on, is what the third reef keeper is doing wrong!
