    Introducing new clowns

    Anyone know who long they will fight for..

    I have had 2 true percula clowns for allmost 3 years, well one died about 6 months ago and i finally added another one to the tank about a week ago.. and they are usally fine but evey so often i see them lip locking and fighting.. any ideas how long this will go on for?

    My guess is they are both females... no idea if they will ever stop. but then again... its only a guess.

    Since were on the clown topic... try to get a picture of them doing this and submit it in our POTM contest... Voting starts this Monday

    This behaviour will continue until such time as one asserts dominance, at which point the submissive one will become male.

    well i assume that the old one is the Dominate one as she was in the tank longer.. and when i bought the new one i tried to get the smallest on in the tank i picked from.

    otherwise they may very well fight to the death. (i hope Van's scenario plays out).

    Just seems more like when the new one try's to go into the other ones mushroom or bubble coral!

    I had thought they all started out as males and one would turn into a female. I had no idea they could turn back into a male. Are you sure ReefVan?

    damn... I wish I was a Clownfish now... hehe

    Clowns start of as nothing..

    When you introduce 2 then they do fight for Dominance.. the most dominate one becomes female where the other will assume male.. From what i understand when there are more than 2 the rest become Nothing.

    I've heard the same IJO as well as the little reading I've done.
    I've read that they start as males and then one will turn female. This is supposed to be a one way trip unless I've been misinformed. (very likely as well lol)
