Do you add anything to the top off water?

Using RO/DI water. Should I be adding any additives? I have been searching and can't find anything. I have also been told many different things. One was to use Reef Builder.

I am not sure if you guys put anything in your top off water?

I am struggling to get my CA= 400 (using reef complete) and dkh = 9 (reef pro dkh) at the same time. I can get one to the right level but the other falls. I am not sure if this is due to my top off water or another issue??

If anyone can help I would appreciate it... not to mention be thankful for saving money on additives that I should not be using.

    Thanks.

I don't add anything to my water. I only do water changes once a month.

    limewater (english) = kalkwasser (german)

I have a kalk reactor that my RO drips into at 150ML/hour. This isn't quite enough to keep up to the evap in my tank so I also auto top off with plain RO/DI.

Blinky here (Acrylic City) makes an awesome kalk reactor if you're looking for one. It would certainly help with you Ca & Alk.

    Cheers!

sorry to brin this old post back but my local fish store guy told me that not adding an alk buffer to my top up water is the cause for my cyano bateria build up....

i've trusted this guy since i started out and yet this doesn't make sense to me if no one else is adding anything to top up water...

I have read (no guarantees it is true) that high levels of calcium carbonate results in phosphate precipitating out of solution. Any chemists want to chime in?

i don't add anything but am looking into starting with the kalk ( 2 part is getting pretty old ). i need to find a source of pickling lime or an american who will ship to me.

i think you misunderstood him or he misunderstood you. if your having a cyano build up take a look at your DI resin or RO membrane. ( if you think it's coming from your top up water )
