    PH stuck at 7.8

I'm having a problem with my PH, It's stuck at 7.8.
All the other param. are OK.
I even added some "Proper PH 8.2" and it did go up to 8.2 for a bit but then came back to 7.8.

I was under the impression that PH would take care of itself id everything else was OK.

I don't want to have to keep adding "Proper PH 8.2" all the time.

    Please advise

PS. I also noticed that the PH of my new salt water mix (made with salt purchased from IJO, not the Instant Ocean...the other brand.) is in the 7.6 range. Is that normal?
P.S. I'm french so I never make any typos......they are actual mistakes :sorry:
    I'm not in a rush.....but I am on a budget! :bigcry:

do you have an alkalinity test kit? However you are buffering your system it would appear to be insufficient. And nothing in this hobby takes care of itself.
I test for alkalinity and next to never for ph. If my alk is in the right range my ph will undoubtably be as well.

freshly mixed saltwater wouldnt be much higher than tap... it'll take some time before the water is buffered to 8.2

i would suggest checking kH and Ca levels, if the water is soft (which it shouldnt be, this part of canada) then it will cause pH to drop.

The only other thing I can think of off the top is your test kit might be fibbing to you. What kit are you using & how old is it?

    Cheers!

You'll know for sure if your kit is wrong if your alk is right.

    Update on my PH problem.

First of all..........a big :thanx: to all that replied.

My problem was actually caused by ME! :banghead:

Wanting to save time I once did a big batch of salted water for my water changes. Then my tank crached, got bumed out, took me a couple of months to bring it back.

Talked to my LFS guy (LFS being La Niche in Gatineau).

First thing he said, you have low PH in your mix because your water mix is to old. (Mixed a fresh batch yesterday and all the param. are on the dot.)

Started a water change regiment and PH is comming up.

Water changes with a FRESH mix is the most important thing! I know! :hammerhea

What is considered too old for new salt water mix to be sitting around?

I have a batch mixed for about 5 days. It has a powerhead and heater in it.
