salifert mg test kit help(end colour)

So i picked up a salifert test kit the other day to test my mg now when i tested it i olny saw pink the whole time so either my mg is very low(below 30) or its changes to grey from pink (was hoping blue) which sucks for me cause im color blind and they are the same colours. ne ways if some one has this and could take a pick of the starting colour and the end colour that would be great.

redid the test with my gf she olny saw pink the whole time....
redid again after removing the air from the syringe and finnally got it to turn to blue but it was like 1.22ml of regant 3
punch this in to their equation mg = 1- (reading in step six)1.22 x 1500 = -330 mg lol
    help me out thanks

    1.22*1500 = 1830 mg;
or 1500 from the first syringe-ful,
plus 330 from the second syringe.
This assumes that the black plunger was at 0.78 ml for your second syringe.
1.00-0.78=0.22ml. Added to the first syringe of 1.00 ml = 1.22 ml of reagant 3 was used.

Optimum values for Mg are in the vicinity 0f 1350, so I wouldn't add any Mg until your readings fall back to below optimum.

Pat, haven't seen u around here in a while.. how u been !??

as for the magnesium, a few things to keep in mind, first.. might be an old kit.
so results may be no good.
then if Pat's numbers or correct with your measurements.. thats too much for sure.
What i'm worried about is how you got it that high ? which type of supplement did you give them ? magnesium can be added many different ways, here are some common examples: magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfates and magnesium calcium mix like dolomite grains etc. magnesium chloride can really bring a tank out of wack as the chloride portion messes with the salinity. the sulfates.. well.. your adding sulfates to your tank.. sps corals need it.. but too much is detremental. Just things to keep in mind..

how are your other parameters ? more specifically salinity, Ca and Alk ?

    cheers,

i just bought the test kit and its using saliferts new regants 4drops (old was 6)
i re did the test after to see what the actual reading was (the 1.22ml was way over saturated just wanted to see a colour chsange) my mg is 1590-1620
i dont dose any thing but kalk i bought it cause i wanted to see if i need to start
i am using IO but my bucket was right at the bottom ... i have about 7 gallons left in it also the last time i used it i didnt close it properly so some of the salt was hardened togeather so i shook the bucket hard to break it up
and then when i was adding salt to water i picked out any hardened lumps so i think maby mg setteled to the bottom of the bucket (possible?) or didnt harden with the rest ... it did take more salt to get me to my 1.26 sg
