How do smokers affect water quality???

I was wondering what the effect of smoking is on the tank?
As there is alot of water agitation, then would that increase the mono-dioxide (?) in the tank and would skimming get it out?
I had some people over for a few days and they were smokers (which started this train of thought ) and I noticed that a film on the top of the tank had developed (may have been there before but I'd not noticed).
Any ideas or thoughts on this?

id say your fish might want a daily dose of nicotine

it might lower the oxygen levels.. but possibly not because if they get too low.. we would just pass out. so.. possibly nothing. interested thread !!

I think the 02 levels would drop as it's more concentrated in their small environment than ours.
At what point would be it be a problem?
When I see the fish bobbing for air????

The film might relate more to the products of tobacco combustion (the tar) which is organic. Would be interesting to see what a skimmer would do with this.

Interesting thread....I don't allow anyone (not even my mother-in-law) to smoke in our house.

Maybe we should request a new health warning on cigarette packages heheh. "Warning smoking may cause your marine fish to be impotent!"

now that they are addicted to it.. you'll have to give them a drip dose of nicorette patch.

who here smokes in his house.. notice something different then other tanks ??

Did you notice if your PH dropped any? I, along with others will notice when we have a party or anything that involves a bunch of people in the house, it will lower the PH of the tank somewhat. Obviously this will happen more in the winter months when all windows are closed. or this reason, I would say there's a good possibility that the smoking will also affect the water quality. As insurance, I would say to try to get all smokers to do their thing outdoors.

There has to be some interaction between all the crap in cigeratte smoke and the tank water- especially if skimming is happening- i don't know what gets into the water, but I doubt it is good!! I would bet whatever can be dissolved into blood and taken into the bloodstream could also be disolved into the water.
I guess you'll know whether or not damage was done if the fish develope a smoker's hack or are all grumpy and eating too much after the smoking guests leave!
